Blue Shield of California President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Markovich recently spoke with venture capital investor Chitra Nawbatt in Las Vegas at HLTH 2022 during an appearance on their "Daily Show." Markovich shared his perspective on the need for alignment between payers and providers and the importance of scaling value-based care models. He re-emphasized the need to provide access to personalized, high-quality services for our members.
“It has to be high tech and high touch,” said Markovich. “You can’t possibly understand the needs of everyone and match them unless you bring health care into the digital age, truly automate things, and have that technology underpinning.”
As technology continues to make Blue Shield’s processes more efficient and create more ways to engage with members, Markovich says that human connection will remain a key differentiator for the organization.
“We also know that health gets driven a lot by just knowing people personally – that human touch,” said Markovich. “We’ve done things on the high-tech side, like create a comprehensive digital health record that people can access on their phone, and we also have health advocates that support members with day-to-day life things.”
