San Francisco (October 1, 2019) – Blue Shield of California implemented its first-ever Supplier Code of Conduct, which is available here. The Supplier Code of Conduct was created to ensure their vendors have safe working conditions, employees are treated with respect, and environmental stewardship is a priority in their operations.
While the insurer has always trusted its vendors to operate and conduct business ethically, formalizing a company-wide Supplier Code of Conduct helps to educate current and future vendors who wish to do business with Blue Shield of California about their expectations of operating in a fair and equitable way, and to promote diversity and inclusion in their business practices.
“Our Supplier Code of Conduct is a reflection of our company’s values,” said Pradip Khemani, senior director of Global Business Services at Blue Shield of California. “We want to attract and partner with businesses that share our values.”
The new Blue Shield of California Supplier Code of Conduct drew upon recognized industry standards and best practices. Key stakeholder feedback from senior leadership, External Affairs, Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion Council, Legal, and Corporate Compliance ensured that the Supplier Code of Conduct was tailored to support the company’s mission and values.
