CalPERS selects Blue Shield Trio HMO and Access+ HMO Plans

Trio HMO to be introduced in El Dorado, Los Angeles, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties

Helping to transform a healthcare system into one that is worthy of our family and friends and sustainably affordable, Blue Shield of California is proud to announce that the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) has selected Blue Shield’s Trio Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Access+ HMO health plans as part of their HMO offerings beginning January 1, 2020.

During this year’s open enrollment for 2020 benefits, Blue Shield and CalPERS will introduce a six county Trio offering in Sacramento, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Yolo and Los Angeles counties. Blue Shield’s Access+ plan and its extensive network of statewide providers will continue to be offered to CalPERS members in 30 counties throughout the state.

“We are excited to team with CalPERS to introduce Trio and to continue to offer our Access+ plan to their members,” said Todd Walthall, executive vice president, Blue Shield of California. “Blue Shield of California is proud of our long-standing history of providing high-quality, affordable healthcare services to the loyal plan members in CalPERS, and we look forward to our expanded opportunities to provide them with access to quality care in 2020.”

Blue Shield’s Trio plan is designed to provide access to a better care experience, more affordable care, and convenient ways to access it.  Blue Shield’s Access+ plan is designed to provide both comprehensive coverage and access to one of the largest, quality networks of doctors, specialists and hospitals throughout California.
