Resources for Parents and Guardians during COVID-19

Blue Shield of California is here for you and your child. With a team of experts, we launched our BlueSky initiative to fulfill the unmet mental health needs of California’s youth. While we shelter in place, please continue to visit this page for updated resources to help you help your child manage your stress during these trying times. Together with the following partners, we offer these resources:

  • Child Mind Institute – You can request a telehealth appointment with a mental health professional. These experts can provide evaluations for behavior, mood, and anxiety disorders, parent training, and group treatments. Request an appointment here: https://childmind.org/our-care/telehealth/
  • DoSomething – Kicking off May’s Youth Mental Health Awareness Month, our partners at DoSomething will announce the first winner of the “New State of Mind” scholarship.  Encourage your child to join the thousands of DoSomething members by sending in tips on how they handle COVID-19 related worries. Entrants can win one of three $1,000 scholarships. In the meantime, DoSomething reminds youth to not let COVID-19 stop them from changing the world, and offers tips on how to stay safe, calm and help others do the same.
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness – Watch video messages from NAMI California’s CEO, Jessica Cruz, on such topics as how stress is affecting us, and support for caregivers. NAMI offers quick tips on ways to stay connected, working from home while maintaining wellness, and a family guide on helping parents and children during this crisis.

We hope these resources from our trusted partners can alleviate some of the stress and anxiety you and your family are feeling during this uncertain time. Blue Shield of California encourages you to visit this page and our partners’ pages often.
