National Healthcare Decisions Day Offers Free Preparation Workshops Across San Francisco
Residents encouraged to prepare for important end of life decisions to help ease the burdens on families, and ensure that end of life care is consistent with their preferences.

WHAT:  April 16th is National Health Care Decisions Day, and members of the public are encouraged to join free Advance Care Planning workshops across San Francisco that will help them prepare for making decisions about their medical care at the end of life or during a serious illness. Advance Care Planning ensures a person’s medical care decisions will be honored and helps provide a less stressful experience for loved ones.

The workshops will be offered April 16 and will help participants identify future hopes and wishes for medical care. The workshops also help attendees identify someone who will advocate for their wishes when they no longer can. Attendees will learn how to speak with doctors, family and friends about their wishes. Facilitators will provide guidance on how to prepare an Advance Care Directive. The workshops will be offered in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Cantonese and Vietnamese.

WHO:  Members of the public who are interested in this issue for themselves and their families.

All events are free and open to the public. The events are presented by the San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services and the Palliative Care Workgroup as well as partners the San Francisco Public Library, Blue Shield California, Hellman Foundation, California Health Care Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.
