On the topic of anxiety, David Bond, Blue Shield of California’s director of behavioral health and lifestyle medicine, said “We’re talking about not just fearfulness that’s in somebody’s head, but heartrate goes up, skin flushes, people start to perspire, and the blood vessels around the heart constrict. Over time there are legitimate health outcomes associated with mental health conditions like depression and anxiety.”

Bond was part of a panel discussion that aired on Oct. 18 on KVIE – Sacramento’s PBS affiliate – to discuss the documentary film, “Angst: Building Resilience.” The film was sponsored in part by Blue Shield of California’s BlueSky initiative and highlights the prevalence of anxiety among youth while addressing its causes and providing solutions for a hopeful future. Through this collaboration the film is now available for California educators to access for the school year.
Moderated by Jeremiah Aja, assistant director for Wellness Together and licensed professional clinical counselor, the panel featured a powerful discussion about supporting youth to build mental resilience during these challenging times.
