Women Transforming Health Care: A New Series Profiling Women Leaders at Blue Shield of California

At Blue Shield of California, we’re celebrating Women’s History Month by shining a light on the amazing women who lead our organization. Today, we’re kicking off “Women Transforming Health Care,” a series that shares expertise and insights from a dozen of our female executives - women who are driving our efforts to reimagine the healthcare system.

They’ll share perspectives about why they work in health care, the women who inspire them, and how to support the next generation of women leaders.

According to the Peterson Institute for International Economics, recruiting and supporting female leaders is a great investment: companies with at least 30 percent of women in leadership positions generate more creative and profitable solutions and implement innovations faster. At Blue Shield of California, half of our senior executive team and 70 percent of our total workforce are women.

“Our female leaders bring extraordinary leadership and passion to their work,” said Mary O’Hara, chief human resource officer and senior vice president of internal communications. “They not only do great work, but also make everyone around them better, which is essential to achieving our mission. We’re delighted to shine a spotlight on what motivates and inspires them to lead.”
