Blue Shield of California Announces HungChing Chan as Vice President of Enterprise Analytics and Informatics

SAN FRANCISCO (May 18, 2017) --- HungChing Chan has joined Blue Shield of California as vice president of Enterprise Analytics and Informatics. She will be responsible for advancing the analytics and informatics program across the enterprise, enabling the nonprofit health plan to increase efficiency, mitigate risk, identify medical cost savings opportunities and spur growth.

Chan has more than 25 years of health care analytics experience. She most recently served as vice president of Analytics and Health Care Economics at UnitedHealth Group, where she led a team of researchers and analysts responsible for using data and analytics to drive the clinical improvement and medical cost reduction for Amil, Brazil’s largest health plan. She also served as vice president of Medical Informatics Consulting at Optum – a UnitedHealth Group company – where she led clinical and pharmacy analytics consulting, and OptumHealth business process outsource (BPO) analytics.

“HungChing has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance execution and high standards of excellence,” said Michael Mathias, senior vice president and chief information officer at Blue Shield of California. “Her addition to Blue Shield affirms our commitment to advanced analytics at an enterprise level.” Chan will report to Mathias.

Chan earned her Ph.D. candidacy in Health Service Research, Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. She holds a master’s in Health Services Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan.
