Blue Shield of California Expands into Rancho Cordova

BY MILLIE VIRGIL - Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2013, more than 14 million people in the United States gained health insurance coverage. In California, we’ve seen the uninsured rate drop from 14.4 percent in 2013 to 9.2 percent in 2015; nearly a 5 percent decrease.  With more people signing up for coverage, the healthcare industry has grown exponentially in order to provide quality service to its members.

Since 2012, Blue Shield’s workforce has grown significantly from 5,000 to more than 5,800. As the company continues to grow, we’re always looking for real estate opportunities that best fit our needs and affordability goals. As a result, Blue Shield signed a lease earlier this year for the two buildings at 3300 Zinfandel Drive and 10834 International Drive in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

The property is an ideal fit for Blue Shield and our employees, both short and long term. Employees will have access to a cafe and fitness center, and the 175,000 square feet allows space for potential job growth.

The property is also commuter-friendly with a 1000-stall parking area on site and public transportation options nearby; the light-rail stops about one-mile away. This makes it easier for San Francisco-based employees to travel there without a car, and for employees based there to get to Sacramento or the Bay Area with ease.

Approximately 550 employees that are currently based in El Dorado Hills will move to the new facility in October. Blue Shield is keeping its El Dorado Hills office open.

The Sacramento Business Journal has more on this exciting move and what it means for our employees.
