Dr. Stuart Levine Joins Blue Shield of California as Clinical Innovation and Care Integration Officer

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 26, 2015) --- Stuart Levine, MD, MHA, has joined Blue Shield of California as clinical innovation and  care integration officer. Levine will hold a vice president level position and be responsible for driving clinical optimization and innovation across accountable care organization (ACO) initiatives and Medicare programs.

“Dr. Levine brings to Blue Shield more than 25 years of population health management and clinical innovation experience, creating best-in-class delivery systems for commercial and government programs,” said Marcus Thygeson, MD, MPH, senior vice president and chief health officer. “His talent and reputation will help continue to drive lower costs and better health outcomes through ACO and Medicare programs.” Levine will report to Thygeson.

Most recently, Levine served as executive vice president and executive medical director for Clinical Integration and Transformation at Heritage Medical Systems, where he led clinical optimization and innovation across the enterprise. Prior to his role at Heritage, he held leadership positions at HealthCare Partners, SCAN Health Plan and Accretive Health. This is Levine’s second stint with Blue Shield. As vice president of Quality, and Vendor Management of External Clinical Programs in 2012, he developed and executed quality programs that improved health care processes and delivery. Levine is a graduate of University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.
