The company signed the 10-year lease for the two buildings at 3300 Zinfandel Drive and 10834 International Drive earlier this year, and approximately 700 employees began moving in last month. While the short-term purpose of the office is employee re-location, the 175,000 square feet allows space for potential job growth.
State Senator Tom Berryhill, who represents Rancho Cordova and presented a Senate proclaimation in honor of Blue Shield’s move, hailed the economic development boost of the new facility. Rancho Cordova City Councilmember Dan Skoglund and Steve Millner, chairman of the board of directors for the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce, echoed Berryhill’s remarks.
“Blue Shield is a terrific addition to our community,” said Skoglund. “We’re excited about the potential for new jobs in this region’s growing health care sector.”
Blue Shield joins Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Delta Dental, Dignity Health, Health Net and McKesson, among others, as the latest health care company to have a presence in Rancho Cordova.
Juan Davila, Blue Shield executive vice president of Health Quality and Affordability, and Todd Walthall, senior vice president of Customer Experience, said the location was an ideal fit for Blue Shield employees, with 1,000 parking spaces, access to public transportation and retail and restaurants within walking distance.
“The move to Rancho Cordova supports Blue Shield’s growth and business strategies while providing employees with great amenities and modern conveniences to enhance their work experience,” said Davila.
